How much does the Body Love Box cost?
Who's behind the Body Love Box?
I'm Lindley, pronounced LIN-lee, and this is my baby/brainchild/ shiny/precious. I'm a fat-positive and body-positive photographer. I live outside Seattle, WA, and I've been part of the fat acceptance community for about a decade now. You can take a look at my work in body-safe portrait and boudoir photography at Sweet Amaranth, and my diverse stock photography at Representation Matters.me.
Why a subscription box?
I've been collecting body-positive swag and putting together little swag bags for my photography clients and models for years, and they got such delighted reactions that it eventually made sense to bring that joy to a larger audience -- you.
I've heard that subscription boxes run off free samples. Are you making all the money here?
This is absolutely true -- many subscription boxes depend on free products from their contributing businesses to be profitable.
The Body Love Box DOES NOT work this way. Every person who contributes a product to the box gets paid a fair, living wage for their work. (Any advertisements and coupons you see are exceptions; advertisers pay a small fee to be included in the box and are carefully vetted to ensure their products and services are in line with Body Love Box values.)
Is this going to actually be a good box for all bodies? What about men and non-binary folks? What about people who identify as superfat? What about people of color and the LGBTQIAP+ community?
It would be really easy to make this a fluffy, inoffensive, super-femme box that only really embraces the shallow "love your body, y'all!!!" kind of "body positivity" you see online a lot these days. I'm not down with that. It's too important for everyone to have body acceptance resources.
As I was dreaming up the Body Love Box, I knew that I didn't want it to *just* be body positive candy, melting deliciously on your tongue but not providing anything substantial. I want to send you a just-as-delicious sandwich every month that has both yummy filling AND a substantial outside.
We're going to be digging much deeper. Yes, there will be light, fun swag, and yes, quite a bit of it will be fairly femme in nature (since that's a lot of what's available right now).
But you'll also be getting:
- Work from marginalized artists -- fat, superfat, POCs, and LGBT+
- Zines from old-school fat acceptance to new self-care
- Resources, coupons and goodies around sex positivity, role models, care and feeding of the body you have right now, and more
And, of course, fat unicorns.
How often do I get a box?
Subscribing will get you a box every month around the 10th of each month (international shipping may take longer).
Do you ship internationally?
Global shipping is available when you check out, so choose any destination you like.
Can I send a subscription as a gift?
Yes! When you check out, be sure to select the "This is a gift" check box and you'll be able to enter the recipient's address and a gift message. (If that gift is for yourself, I won't tell.)
Your giftee will get an email letting them know to expect the box. You can also print or send them this little gift note.
